EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH LEFO X

Summer time is crazy no?  Endless weekends and work out the ace.  Thankfully we were able to get some time with Lefo X.  Hailing from Athens, Greece, Lefo X is a top shelf producer of some of the deepest electronica we've heard.  Now, we pass the awesome sauce onto you.

FCK YES! How the FCK are you today?

Lefo X - I'm very well.

FY! How did the name Lefo X come to be?

Lefo X - It's actually a nickname that some friends use to call me and it stuck.

FY! You've been producing for over 3 years. What would you be doing if it weren't for music?

Lefo X - I have been producing since 1996 to be precise , but I've been releasing the past 3 - 4 years. There was a time a few years back that I stopped producing and composing and I think it was the most empty and infertile period of my life... So I really don't want to even think about it.

FY! What are some of your favorite places to play?  Which type of venue do you like the best?

Lefo X - This past few years I stopped playing in venues, because here in Greece there aren't many places that you can feel free to play the way you want and the style you want.  So I prefer to stick with my productions and do some dj sets at my home studio.

FY! What's in your music player right now?

Lefo X - Lately I've been listening the WISDOM OF CROWDS album which is a collaboration of Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief) and Jonas Renkse (Katatonia).  Not an EDM album, but it has some great tracks in it ! I also liked the new album of MODERAT, awesome sounds.

FY! What is your mindset going during track production?

Lefo X - Nothing specific. I try to experiment a lot with my sound and you can see that by listening previous releases.  I've done from progressive house, techno, electronica, dubstep, breaks, and even rock tracks.  I like to use live instruments in my tracks because I think it gives my sound a "warm feeling" and this is the direction I've taken this last 6-7 months while composing my new tracks and that's the main reason I formed a live band actually.

FY! Your track Disappear is dark with industrial undertones.  I love it!  Who did the vocals?

Lefo X - Thank you , I'm glad you liked it ! I did the vocals on "Disappear".  I don't consider myself a singer but I like to try on some of my tracks.

FY! Tell us what your studio set up is like.

Lefo X - Nothing special at my home studio because I mainly use it for the pre-production stage: KRK ROKIT5 monitors, a Focusrite Saffire Pro24 DSP audio interface, an Axiom 25 midi, and Cubase 5 as a sequencer.  When I'm done with "building" the track I do the final exports and go to Lizard Sound Studios, which is a very well equipped studio here in Athens, where I record all the live instruments and vocals and do the final mixing in Pro-Tools.

FY! What's next for Lefo X?

Lefo X - After my latest single "Disappear" from Columns Of Knowledge Recordings , I have one more single to be released from Velcro City Records on September 25th.  Then I have some tracks that I'm now rehearsing with my live band and are going to be recorded sometime this year.

FY! Finish this sentence:  Live music is....

Lefo X - An experiment!!!

FY!  Thank you very much.
