BIG GIGANTIC x GRIZ - POWER

Boulder native Big Giantic and Detroit based GRiZ released their collaboration “Power” on December 11 of last year, but was first dropped at Electric Forest last July. The sound is, well, Gigantic, and as much as I hate the word, it parallels the definition of epic.  Flawlessly merging elements of dubstep, drum n bass and electro house, “Power” is a heartwarming electro funk masterpiece.  Starting with a subtle intro theme that musically alludes to a western movie theme, the song is followed up with sax stabs that brings us to the drop.  Following the drop comes the funk, by far my favorite part of the song.  Pristine and clean, the synth leads remind me of Jordan Rudess (from Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment). To hear what I’m getting at listen to Paradigm Shift around the 4:00 mark.

“Power” is definitely not a boring rehash of EDM; it’s one of the freshest tracks of its kind I’ve heard in a long time.  Overall, I hope this progressive funky vibe is here to stay for a long time.  Both GRiZ and Big Gigantic have recently released free to download albums as well which can be found here: Griz - Big Gigantic

FCK YES! it's a free download.  Now show Big Giantic and GRiZ some love on Facebook.
